August 25, 2009 - Foreign Policy's Laura Rozen covers the CNAS Next Generation Leaders Program on FP.com.  Rozen writes, "The Center for New American Security, the plugged-in Washington national security think tank which has had a slate of associates join the Obama administration, has announced those selected to be in its first class of Next Generation National Security Leaders."

May 6, 2009 - In "The Final Report of the Congressional Commission on the Strategic Posture of the United States," CNAS Board of Director member and Commission Chairman William Perry writes that "Indeed, if the vision of nuclear elimination is thought of as the 'top of the mountain,' it is clear that it cannot be seen at this time. But I believe that we should be heading up the mountain to a “base camp” that would be safer than where we are today."

March 16, 2009 - Last fall, seasoned Middle East negotiator Dennis Ross laid out a Goldilocks-like set of diplomatic strategies for dealing with Iran: Tighten the noose of sanctions, engage without conditions, or pursue a hybrid option that combines negotiation and pressure.

The first, he suggested in a report for the Center for a New American Security, would strengthen the hardline Iranian regime, the second would put the United States in a position of weakness.

November 16, 2008 - The Wall Street Journal's Yochi Dreazen writes about CNAS, calling it a "media saavy" think tank with "middle-of-the-road policy views."

James Miller, Senior Vice President and Director of Studies at the Center for a New American Security, and S. Enders Wimbush, Director of the Center for Future Security Strategies at the Hudson Institute, were interviewed on C-SPAN's Washington Journal on challenges President-elect Obama will face.  Two main issues discussed were defense policy, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan, and veterans affairs.

Ashton Carter, a senior Pentagon official in the Clinton administration, wrote a paper for the Center for a New American Security, a prestigious bipartisan think tank, that asserts military action must be seen as only one component of a comprehensive strategy, “but it is an element of any true option.”

January 15, 2008-- The accelerating spread of nuclear weapons, nuclear know-how and nuclear material has brought us to a nuclear tipping point. We face a very real possibility that the deadliest weapons ever invented could fall into dangerous hands.

The steps we are taking now to address these threats are not adequate to the danger. With nuclear weapons more widely available, deterrence is decreasingly effective and increasingly hazardous.

January 4, 2007--Nuclear weapons today present tremendous dangers, but also an historic opportunity. U.S. leadership will be required to take the world to the next stage -- to a solid consensus for reversing reliance on nuclear weapons globally as a vital contribution to preventing their proliferation into potentially dangerous hands, and ultimately ending them as a threat to the world.
