Anyone else noticed that the editor in chief of the New York Times has been reporting from Tehran?

Is this good, or should he be back in New York trying to lose less money this quarter?

Iran, Media

Unless he's pulling a Rick

Unless he's pulling a Rick Bragg...or was it Jayson Blair? Maybe both - who reported from all around the world from the comfort of their homes.

Good thing. Can't

Good thing. Can't effectively lead the squadron if the skipper isn't flying missions over the beach.

I'd have to think Keller's reporting from Tehran helps the NYT's credibility AND the bottom line in the long run. Wonder, did reading #CNNFail influence the NYT?

Definitely a good thing.

Definitely a good thing. Newspapers exist to give us news, and the Iran story should be at the top of their priorities right now.

Who says a news person is

Who says a news person is supposed to make money? They are suppose to tell the news like Michael Jordan could win games. Then, its the Management Team and Board of Directors who are suppose to build and operate the business model. But CNN proves this concept is pure bunk. So the question is what is the propaganda value of an American corporate media celebrity in Iran inaccurately commenting on perceived events? Is this just another Pentagon public opinion scheme? Who the frack knows anymore!

No, no, no, AM, you got it

No, no, no, AM, you got it all wrong. Think of all the ratings and attention the NYT can get from this. "Hey, our boss is up to his arm pits in green-clad youth in Tehran. Where's *your* Ted Turner? Oh, that's right, re-airing Larry King interviews with meaningless media whores."
But seriously, he is doing his work. Good for him. I only hope more journalists take his lead. Better yet, we need more on-the-ground journalists breaking the media restrictions and reporting on the truth.

I'm all in favor of this.

I'm all in favor of this. The NYT's coverage of the Iranian situation has been excellent in general, and the fact that they've deployed their EIC to the other side of the world just goes to show how seriously they're taking things. And besides, it's not clear to me that proving themselves to be a player in the 24-hour-news-cycle world isn't a money-making venture for the NYT. Who knows - maybe we'll be seeing NYT reporters on location when the next Katrina hits...
