Craig apparently can't afford a tie, too. So now I have to send to DC a tie to be shared by Exum, Mullaney and Rosen (who is in NY and really just needs it for Congressional testimony).

Fnord, I second your comment. He looks like a frat boy up for an eight o'clock class.
The dearth of comments here serves to show how many cadets read this blog. Don't feel bad, though, Abu M, not many of us can read at all. As for Mullaney, well, I know some of us over at Hoya BN were excited about his book. Everyone--especially the MSIV leadership--was gaa-gaa for this guy. Frankly, I can't help but feel suspicious of him. It takes a special person to write a memoir like "Minute"--to be honest, I think "Look What I Did" would've been a better title. As Vanity Fair would have it, Mullaney is "reminiscent of Ernest Hemingway, John Hersey, and Ring Lardner." Are you kidding me? His prose had the density of marshmallow fluff. But what do I know? The blurbs his book received are from a laundry list of names I respect. Honestly, I'm being too critical, and I can see why everyone has rallied around him: for an Army in dire need of leaders who are both classically "hard" but also functional intellectuals, this guy makes for one hell of a role model. He sets the bar high for a cadet population full of fuck-ups, me among them, who are more interested in fighting for slots to Air Assault than learning jackshit about COIN and regional idiosyncrasies. So, then, I guess I'll just throw it in the pile with One Bullet Away & This Man's Army. In the very least, you guys let me know what run times I need to be hitting so I don't look like an ass.
