Yes, John, but who is more fierce? The Taliban or the Scientologists?

We last saw the BBC's John Sweeney when he was baiting Scientologists in California, but Londonstani went through hazardous environment training with him a year or so back, and sure enough, here he is reporting (well) from the Swat Valley. And here he is talking about reporting from such an environment.

One would imagine the pussy

One would imagine the pussy chickenhawks at Blackfive would be the "most fierce," seeing as they pretty much called you an unintellectual coward over the weekend.

Don't worry: You are nearly as bright as "Uncle Jumbo."

New US battle rule: No fighting near Afghan homes
By JASON STRAZIUSO, The Associated Press 6:51 a.m. June 22, 2009

APKABUL — The top U.S. general in Afghanistan will soon formally order U.S. and NATO forces to break away from fights with militants hiding in Afghan houses so the battles do not kill civilians, a U.S. official said Monday.
The order would be one of the strongest measures taken by a U.S. commander to protect Afghan civilians in battle. American commanders say such deaths hurt their mission because they turn average Afghans against the government and U.S. and NATO forces.

I wonder how this part will play out in practice:

McChrystal will issue orders within days saying troops may attack insurgents hiding in Afghan houses if the U.S. or NATO forces are in imminent danger and must return fire, said U.S. military spokesman Rear Adm. Greg Smith.
"But if there is a compound they're taking fire from and they can remove themselves from the area safely, without any undue danger to the forces, then that's the option they should take," Smith said. "Because in these compounds we know there are often civilians kept captive by the Taliban."
McChrystal's predecessor, Gen. David McKiernan, issued rules last fall that told commanders to set conditions "to minimize the need to resort to deadly force."
But McChrystal's orders will be more precise and have stronger language ordering forces to break off from battles, Smith said.

Oh wow, I didn't even see

Oh wow, I didn't even see that Blackfive post. I met "Uncle Jimbo" once and found him to be a nice enough guy, but obviously, we have different politics. With respect to Triage, that paper does not encapsulate the Obama Administration's thinking as far as I know. But it sure seems to line up with what that other softy Gen. McChrystal thinks.

@ Black five blows goat I

@ Black five blows goat

I don't agree with you on that. I think black five's criticism of Exum was spot on. Look at what Exum wrote:

''Krauthammer just opened his cakehole and started giving his opinions. ''

and

''I suspect that one of the reasons Krauthammer, Kagan & Co. are criticizing Obama's tactics vis a vis Iran is because the majority of Americans would find their strategic goals they hint at but never reveal to be bat-guano crazy. Prove me wrong''

Personally I think that it is bat-guano crazy to think that you can shut down Iran's Nuke/Terrorist programs with negotiations.
