Frankly, it is rather less funny when you realize that the author is likely suffering from mental illness--indeed part of her story suggests she might have spent time in a psychiatric hospital.
To my mind, it all falls into the "let's make fun of the sick person" school of humour, which I don't find particularly amusing. If people want to poke their office mates to share their private incredulity at the blogsite, by all means. Holding someone with possibly incurable illness up to even more international ridicule than she already experiences? Well that's helpful.
