I just printed the whole thing off to read on the Metro (.pdf). All kinds of good stuff, as usual, and with more geographic diversity than this blog has sported of late.

Nice! Abu Muqawama, maybe you can share your thoughts on how the Philippines won; and how you and Gen McChrystal are trying to learn from Philipino success in Afghanistan.
The article on the increased role of the Uzbek Islamic Jihad Union (IJU) in "attacks in Afghanistan, likely coordinated with the Haqqani network" and IMUs work in association with Baitullah Mehsud was also interesting; as is the IJU's and IMU's increased role in organizing terrorist attacks.
Is it my imagination, or do terrorist attacks increasingly seem to come from Haqqani and the foreign fighters he associates with (such as IJU and the "Punjabi Taliban"); while the Quetta Shura Taliban seems to be stepping back from terrorist attacks against Afghan civilians? Am I generalizing too much?
It does seem that the "local Taliban" in the South are trying to avoid killing Afghan civilians in the South.
