Son of Tito, Leatherneck

Nick Francona -- U.S. Marine, Penn graduate and all-around American Hero -- emailed me to wish me a Merry Christmas and to say he gave me a shout out on ESPN.com. Nick's story is a pretty incredible one, and I for one am really resisting the urge to make a comment about the patriotism of Red Sox fans as compared with fans of another club (that will go unnamed lest I draw the wrath of the Jeter-loving Lady Muqawama). But if you happen to be a fan of baseball, read this article. Go Red Sox, and Semper Fi.

My father risked his life

My father risked his life fighting on in the front lines of WW2. At one time the war department declared him MIA, his mother got the letter from the government. He has stories of being in a burning plane, engines failing, throwing things out of the plane to lighten the load trying to make it back to land. Last resort getting on his knees with a known atheist to pray as the plane lost altitude. Other stories of rushing to a bomber that had exploded at take-off, heavy with fuel, to find a lone survivor in the plane's tail section. Days that planes took off from the tarmack consistantly, one after another, from dawn-to-dusk. That was the Navy Air Force. In the air, he was a belly gunner. On ship, he chased U-boats. They were shelled by a U-boat and afterwards my father said the Navy made the ocean boil. The Navy had him on board his sister ship that was torpedoed, that was the day he became MIA. He came home so that I could write this. There are a lot of things my father has not said, you can see the tears in his eyes when thoughts are triggered.

Every once in a while, my father will look at today's news. He will comment, "this is not what I risked my life for". My father earned the right to say things like that. Guys like my father need to be renewed every day.

Stories like the one on Nick Francona are the ones that make him happy.

Sad to see thay have

Sad to see thay have neutered you, Abu M. "All american hero"? Jesus, is this Sparta?

Meanwhile, heres a War Nerd article for ya: http://exiledonline.com/the-war-nerd-hardware-for-dummies-v-22-osprey-ta...

@Fnord, They didn't neuter

@Fnord,

They didn't neuter him, it's who he is...he's liberal, a patriot, loves his country, loves sports. At least that's what I glean from him....he's also a redneck who likes whiskey and guns. Taken all together I can overlook the Liberal Part. We can definitely agree on Patriot, whiskey, and guns. (we should probably not mix the whiskey and guns with politics).

"Is this Sparta?"

I am biting off a list of alternatives, the nicest of which involves Helot.

I mean for f*cks sake, who the Hell do you people think we are...from Jump street. Maybe 6% of the USA is progressive...even the Dems love guns and country over here...

And what kind of homo doesn't like sports and whiskey?

Just think of Norway...about....1100 AD..at the latest. And I like it that way.

Elf: I like sports and

Elf: I like sports and whiskey.and rioting in the streets, but I also like my leaders to be a bit complicated, you know? And Exum has leaped up into that sphere, like quite a few 2006-7 bloggers did. Ive defended him several times. But I feel his analysis is becoming generic, and his cliches are a wee bit too simple for my taste. Theres no operational smartness anymore, except in Londonstani who still got it. For me, this blog is more and more a link-site, only Londonstani seems to put some effort into writing. I want to read something smart, not ra-ra shit.

hey fnord, why don't you

hey fnord, why don't you just shut the f up and snuggle on these hairy unwashed nuts of mine for the holidays and keep yourself cozy all winter long.

Fnord.....if I recall Exum

Fnord.....if I recall Exum said he was taking a break. Londonstani sort of stood in. Self fullfilling.

From where I sit, you're sounding a little cliche. Want some cheese with your whine?

Got something interesting to say, then contribute. Amaze us all with your vast talent.

visitor 154: Fair enough

visitor 154: Fair enough Some topics I would like to see what folks tthink about:

1) The rising pressure of military action on Iran. http://lynch.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2009/12/24/mainstreaming_the_mad_ir... Wtf?

but maybe thats unfair, so to more op-specific lines of thought:

2) The problem of facing the "shadow gov." of Taleban. How do you deal with the fact that their "shadow govt" is set apart from their military wing, so that strikes at those salient lines will further estrange the hearts and minds? If you assassinate well-respected mullahs, how do you expect to not inflame further aggro?

3) The pentagon procurement carnival. Wtf happened to air-force critique?

4) A sceptical eye on the COIN process, instead of all-out fawning. Where are the attempts at trying to formulate the problems of the process? All I see is ra-ra.

I could go on, but in short: Where is the critical eye?

Exum is taking a break from

Exum is taking a break from blogging to concentrate on his career, serious writing. He's really not here, and said he wouldn't be...and He always is going off on sports tangents. Londonstani is stepping in with his insights...but that doesn't I believe include Iran, what to do about it (I say back the revolution brewing although I am not sure how deep it is)....and I don't think Londonstani's expertise while broad includes USAF critique or on the Pentagon Procurement process.

Why not just throw them to the readership (not my place, but)....

USAF is easy to beat up on, at least here...now when the Navi Counterattack we'll love them again.

As for any US Govt procurement carnival...ditto, ditto, Ibid. Hell with all the light the Pentagon gets they are not so bad.
See: FEMA. And that's across the board and bipartisan. Wait until they start to spend the stimulus ....if they ever get around to spending it on anything but warding off bankruptcy a few months (which is what they've done so far).

Sounds like we self

Sounds like we self radicalized....holding the post hostage.......

We will see were it goes......Gald to see Nick is stepping up so we can sit at home bloging our brains out.
Thanks Nick.......One for the gipper.

If I were fnord, I'd take

If I were fnord, I'd take Bubba's invitation into his world of merriment and play ABBA all night, resting that critical Scandinavian eye of his for the Winter.

Capt. Tony Odierno, son of

Capt. Tony Odierno, son of Ray and Iraq hero, works for the Yankees' front office.

Just saying. Lady Muqawama has discriminating taste.

Fine article, until the part

Fine article, until the part about Alan Dershowitz arranging the internship at WINEP.

I have to question Francona's smarts. He interned in the belly of the beast of The Lobby and somehow fails to recognize that these organizations promote wars of choice against the interests of America.

No "Manny's" in the FMF?

No "Manny's" in the FMF? LOL! Wait til you hit the fleet 2nd Lt Francona. There are plenty of set in their ways gunnys and talented but mopey lance coconuts that need a little push.

And if the BoSox heist Gonzo from my Padres I'm blaming AM now since I'll need someone to blame for my fury.

I found Exum!! He's clearly

I found Exum!! He's clearly over at AFRICOM and has hijacked their Twitter!!

Truthers @USArmyAfrica?

http://www.weeklystandard.com/Weblogs/TWSFP/TWSFPView.asp#14590

Go for it Fnord!! It explains how "Biggie" Boss Nigerian babypants bomber is really a plot to get our hands on their virtuous African oil.

It even has a semi racist comment that "what does a continent that doesn't have electricity need Twitter for"?

Myself, I don't think Twitter should exist, so I guess I am an honest broker.

So, once during my time

So, once during my time "serving" in the Longwood Medical-Industrial Complex, I went to see one of those Red Sox championship trophies. I think it was THE BIG ONE - the championship, I mean. Look, I'm not into sports, so don't expect more than that from me... .

The glittery-shiny trophy was making its way through different Boston area hospitals, and other businesses, and "stopped" at our place. It was placed in a room where the people could file by and look at it. You know, like it was a religious relic or something. Bizarre.

*Belated Merry Christmas and all that, everyone.

Elf: My ex-wife ia Nigerian,

Elf: My ex-wife ia Nigerian, yoruba even. I never managed to get down there yet, but Im welcome in Lagos anytime.. The complexity of *that* place is mindboggling, with at least 5 different nationalities inside the nation. Not to mention Congo, hoho. Its like Af/Pak in that respect, extremely complex, with multiple separate powercenters and non-integrated economies running paralel From a anthropological pov, its a godamn interesting place.

Now babypants I have a hard time swallowing, its too much like the shoebomber for my taste. Must admit, without drifting into 9/11 truther shit, Im a wee bit sceptical about data released about the magnitude of the threat. But it may have been a dark-horse scenario. It just smells like a excuse to go into Yemen, where the Saudis are currently quite engaged. An occupation of Yemen is going to be fun, eh? Against clans of old mujahedin? Thats my initial take on this shit. I dont believe for a second that some black-op shite might not have groomed that crazy fcker (sorry mama Abu) for a mission to raise the tension. Thats why I would like a real investigation report on it before I decide. As well as on the Iranian "doomsdaypapers". Theres so much IO shit flying around these days.

Reading through that, from a

Reading through that, from a Red Hat perspective, it looks really good to draw y`all into Yemen right about now. Attrition, attrition...

I really either gotta get

I really either gotta get better at kidding or just give it up altogether.

Fnord - "Biggie" Babypants is probably more UK and/or transnational brat then he is anything else. For pete's sake his father was Head of the World Bank.

The Ham sandwich is just indeed a ham sandwich. AQ Yemen...er...Arabian Peninsula just claimed credit.

It could be AQ in the Arabian peninsula is on the offensive against us (after building strength and gaining experience against Saud, others). An offensive that began with the Hasan massacre.

It's them dude.

Now mind you, like most Presidents and in particular progressive Presidents (think: Wilson, Roosevelt, Johnson....) find that their truth path to greatness and power is thru war, or so it seems. So it wouldn't surprise me to see another country invaded or seriously escalated on....

Baby Boompants had another

Baby Boompants had another nickname: "The Pope"?!!?!

Well let's add that to the profile!!

Elf: "It's them dude. " Glad

Elf: "It's them dude. "

Glad to hear youre sure... (Heavy sarcasm)

Son of a member of the Red

Son of a member of the Red Sox organization? Doesn't surprise me one bit.

Yankees offspring are probably working for the bin Ladens.
