A few of you inquired as to the title of that new anthology on counterinsurgency for which Dave Kilcullen contributed an excellent chapter on intelligence. It has not been published yet, but you can pre-order it here. I myself have a chapter in the anthology on information operations, and I'll confess to wishing I had read Joanna Nathan's useful chapter on the Taliban's information operations before writing my own (which does not focus on Afghanistan and instead looks at Lebanon and Hizballah). Her chapter can be found in Antonio Giustozzi's latest edited volume
, from which I read on the train yesterday and have been really enjoying.
You might have lost that war
You might have lost that war in Massachusets today. Now you got a lameduck president and a insane opposition. It changes things. How much energy will now be used to fend off impeachment claims , Whitewater scandals, subpoenas and what have you? That means that your CiC will be busy fighting for the next three years against his own people. So youre at a major disadvantage with your IO, because rabid republicans shoot all IO attempts down as conspiracy everytime your political wing makes a stab at it. Remember, Obama is the head of thousands and thousnds of muslims who are hiding in the woods, according to Pajamas TV. http://www.pjtv.com/, The islamic insurrection.
Good luck w the wars, soon theyll be chraging Obama (as Cheney did) for aiding and abetting, while the democrats run around like headless chickens. And then you will all be left behind by the fcking spineless Dems in Senate and Congress, who just want their blowjobs without any work.

Shut up, fnord. No one
Shut up, fnord. No one cares about what you think.
I care what Fnord thinks!!
I care what Fnord thinks!!
Thank you Fnord. Fnord, while a lot of the opposition in the MASS race and indeed the American people are concerned about terrorism in light of the events of Ft Hood and Detroit posh boom- coming on the heels of kinda sorta talking about closing GITMO and more importantly giving KSM Fabulous Five a NYC civilian trial- the main impetus of the voter rebellion and the loose conglomeration of citizen groups called the Tea Party is the fiscal depravity coming out of DC.
It began with the rage against TARP, where the volume of citizens contacting their representatives to tell them vote NO ran in huge numbers (50 to 1 or more), it also crashed Congress's servers. It wasn't a denial of server attack, they were overwhelmed. Try to imagine if the Scandinavian financial crisis of the 90's had been met with a similar policy response. You would have broken out the Viking Broadswords. It doesn't get better with a Trillion dollar stimulus that was basically a Congressional all you can eat orgy of spending willy nilly and yon.* Let's throw in the Fed printing money (100% plus year over year increase in paper) and a few nice proposals like Cap and Trade - consumers get 10$ a gallon gas and 1000$ utility bills, Goldman Sachs lines up for the Cap and Trade exchange $$$. As the icing on the cake Congress turns around about once a quarter now and votes to raise the limit on the National Debt. They just raised it 290 Billion a month ago to keep it going until - spring. That was a month ago. Yesterday they proposed (and will pass) a resolution to raise it another 1.9 Trillion - I guess they want to take the hit now and hope it will wear off by November. I doubt it. Did I mention the largest Carry Trade in history is going on with the dollar, and that this time everyone sees the Bubble, thinks it's going to burst and feels powerless to stop it?
Did I mention all these sweetheart deals for the connected - beginning with Wall Street, continuing with the Stimulus, the takeover of Detroit to pay off the UAW...and most of all the pimping us out - all of us - to the selfsame Insurance Companies they've been decrying (Wall Street loved Health Care "Reform") and blatantly passing out payoffs while the rest of us are hanging on by threads? How do you think these people look to us?
It's a lot more like the revolt under Andrew Jackson against the Second Bank of the United States. Jackson and his supporters believed the Bank was part of a connected Cabal of players who formed a self serving oligarchy at the expense of the people, and he was elected in no small part in 1932 to bring it down. That's the Tea Party, Fnord. It's an economic and governance issue.
And politically the Dems got themselves into an ideologically sealed bubble and missed, ignored and disregarded all the queues. They also kept insulting the common man and showed him their elitist contempt. Did they ever miss a chance to show them contempt? Beginning with Joe the Plumber and continuing until this weekend with Mr Smoothie's line about Pickup Trucks (Scott Brown campaigned around the State in his pickup truck). Coakley BTW couldn't have been a worse candidate (if you're Catholic, you probably shouldn't be working in an Emergency Room. She said that on air in MASS).
*Stimulus Bill is when the term "Tea Party" is first used on CNBC. The bulk of the stimulus so far has been spent on State Gov, the largest chunk going to keep Medicaid from going bankrupt at the State level, the 2d largest chunk going to State Govt budgets. Check out recovery.gov if you want to see why this is a constantly bursting boil on the body politic.
Actually no... So Fnord,
Actually no...
So Fnord, don't think this is about fear of the closet Muslim leading a secret Army of Ghazi's hiding in the woods.
Actually if you want some real Red State Conspiracy Meat - the latest is BHO's person may be in danger now - from the hard progressive Left who feel let down, betrayed and that he failed. From conspiracy GHQ - Glenn Beck last night..

"So he's surrounded by radicals, here's why republic in danger and why the president is in danger. First, the republic:
In the beginning there were Marxist students who wanted real revolution. Then Cloward and Piven came along and said, no, we'll infiltrate and collapse the system. Folks like Dale and Wade Rathke follow in their footsteps. But William Ayers and Jeff Jones — the co-founders of the Weather Underground — disagree. They've never denied that violence is a bad thing. And if they believe that Obama has gone soft and won't collapse the system, they will and they'll do it their way.
Now, here's why the president is in trouble: Van Jones was a 9/11 Truther. He thought government was capable of murdering thousands of U.S. citizens. Put yourself in the mindset of a 9/11 Truther. You have access to the president of the United States. You think he's now joined the cabal that is capable of murdering people and he promised you a revolution. Do you think it's safe to have that individual around the president? Are you comfortable with that?"

So if you want a conspiracy theory to worry about, there's a popular one on the Right. I personally think it's nearly impossible to pull off an assault on POTUS unless you are a highly trained pretzel, and even that failed.

Andrew Exum has gotten a lot
Andrew Exum has gotten a lot of coverage for his writings as Abu Muqawama now hosted at CNAS, the Obama administration's home think tank. This characterization has become more apt recently with the release of their piece Triage on Afghanistan and Pakistan. I'm not accusing them of changing their views to support softer power, but they certainly fit that mold. Exum takes some shots at Paul Wolfowitz and even Charles Krauthammer about their calls for a little spine from the White House. Motorcycle personal injury lawyer
