I didn't really like this
I didn't really like this book, I thought it was too pro-Indian.
Yeah...about as popular as
Yeah...about as popular as Saturday morning class or TEE week. Interesting career progression, but just because someone keeps a journal does not mean it should necessarily be turned into a book. From a cadet's perspective, the book--at least the USMA section--left the reader with a sense that it had been overplayed and the "experiences" hyped and over-dramatized for an outside audience. Really the only thing missing was for some epic battle Firstie year, like in that Marine commercial where the guy kills a dragon with his saber after scaling a cliff in order to earn his Marine dress uniform--if only Arvin has been finished back in 2000. The effect of all this though is that it diminishes any value in the rest of the book, as it leads one to question whether the other "experiences" got the same treatment. I'm sure it got better coverage among his former students at USNA. Looking forward to the sequel though...Trap For Fools: Political Life in Capital City.
Mulaney is too gee-shucks
Mulaney is too gee-shucks and positive, and as the above commentator wrote, wayot over-dramatized. Plus Mulaney is not honest, in my opinion. He seems like a really nice person, and nice people don't write good memoirs.
I literally just finished your memoir, and I have to say I liked it better. Also I'd recommend "The War I Always Wanted" or "One Bullet Away"
I hold any Infantry memoir
I hold any Infantry memoir without mention of lonely moments with sticky 6 month old Club International issue, or no mention of a soapee or the infamous basket of Thailand, or Filipina yum-yums, suspect.
