So Apparently I'm Not the Only One Who Needs Bourbon to Get Through the APSR

This is really, really, really funny. (h/t Sullivan)

Thats politics in the networking/computer age.

How's your email count these days AM? Someone should have done a quantitative study on the frequency of relevant information in modern communication.

People are still going to listen to people, that will never go out of style. It is just about the tools we use to communicate that change.

See that AQAP sent the US a message today.

And we'll be sending them

And we'll be sending them one back. Ours will explode.

Got plenty of pussy, so

Got plenty of pussy, so regress that~!~

Thanks this cheered me up. Apparently my misspent youth in the Army (20s) could have been worse!!

Think the homeland security

Think the homeland security boys will need bourbon to get through the night.....

Looking at the CNN pictures, the circuit boards are cell phones. Don't see sim chips, they might be on the otherside (some of the cheaper throw away phones might use a PCB mounted SIM that is not replacable, have to get the IC ID's to figure that out). Only one battery and it is a button type most likely for the memory, not functionality. CNN mention white powder, Obama verified explosives...putting Yemen, panty bomber, with the powder discription, I would say PETN.

Does not make a lot of sense for a Jewish Center to order toner from Yemen does it. Then there is the timing, guess the tango can use the FedEX/UPS tracking system. CNN did not show a power source in the pictures (ie Cell Li-Ion batteries) just wires going off view. Ding bat press discribed the electronics as crude, only thing I see as crude is the mounting hardware of the cell phone circuit board. Actually it takes a lot of knowledge to program a SIM CHIP to work. It takes hardware that is not cheap. Then you need a working cell number. That takes a lot of communication between Yemen and the US. Ain't it great the Telco's created GSM, Osama can push the buttons himself. Use to be that European and American cells systems were not compatiable. With globalization, that was fixed for convienence!!!! We are stupid.

One option is someone was going to intercept the packages once they got to the destination. FedEx and UPS have good tracking networks....let them do the work for you. All the Tango has to do is be at the right place at the right time. Chicago UPS hub has a lot of theft anyway, packages are stolen all the time. I am sure the same can be said of FedEx, just know people that have lost stuff through UPS at Hodgkins, IL. Tangos can steal the package or pick it up at the door step of the distination. Did it have to be signed for? FexEx usually requires a signature.

Other option is that the Tango waits for the package to arrive per the tracking system to make their call. If the package was self contained, and that would make sense, that would be most likely.

Here is the kicker.....Billions in FULL BODY SCANNERS and lost freedom in frisk searches and the weakest point in the link is still there and the Tangos walked right through it.....CARGO. Passenger or UPS/FedEx. You can get SCANNED or FRISKED, but your lugage maybe just fly right through. Then again, you might get unlucky and fly the day that the Airline carrier takes contract cargo.

One of the enablers was our Globalization. Maybe having seamless cell phones is not a good idea. Time to pull the GSM plug Ma Bell.

Tangos are not dumb.....Not sure what to say about the direction of the guys doing homeland security. They should have seen the phone system as a weakness, but they never considered it. Think, how long have the Tangos been using cell phones? HLS has not plugged the airline security hole and that has been known for a long time.

Obama....wake up. Your boys are a sleep at the wheel.....got luck again.

From the NYT American

From the NYT

American military officials have increased their support to Yemen after a Nigerian man suspected of training with Al Qaeda in Yemen tried and failed to explode a bomb hidden in his underwear on a Detroit-bound jetliner on Christmas Day.

Is not further comment superfluous? But indeed, as a single sentence of timeless Timesness, this competes quite favorably from an earlier jewel, from the obituary of Lt. Gen. Peter Walls:

White apprehensions sharpened on March 4, 1980, when the election results were announced and the clear victor was Mr. Mugabe, seen by many whites as a Marxist rabble-rouser who would hound them out of the country.

As I often find myself saying: "indeed." Is there somewhere I can go to restore my sanity? It's clearly not what it used to be.

/// Is there somewhere I can

/// Is there somewhere I can go to restore my sanity?

I hear there is a rallye adressing that issue today in DC.

All my colleagues were apolitical and what they tried to do with statistics had nothing to do with science! I left after 2 years and never regretted it.
Thanks for that reminder.

From this Brennan interview

From this Brennan interview we can formulate a new question and plan.

The previous questions were:
1) Which individuals are involved?
2) Was the device functional?

Answers respectively:
1) Too early to tell, no group has taken responsibility.
2) Brennan implied that the cell phone installed in the device was functional.

New question and plan:

Has any electronic technician validated the AQAP device’s design? Validating the design would tell us what the jeopardy is.

How do you validate the design? Find out the exact model of the cell phone and the flash memory involved. Get the specifications of the phone and determine if the circuit installed in the printers could receive a call in the United States. The photo of the device in England shows the cell phone display had been removed. It was hard to tell from the Dubai pictures, but the display looked to be intact. If a cell phone has a display, all you need is a keypad (there is a plug for one shown in the CNN analysis) to access the cell phone’s telephone number. No display or keypad? Then go purchase a same model phone and get the parts and install them! Other way is to access the flash memory information (SIM CHIP) via the computer port (there is one shown in the CNN analysis of the cell phone PCB), which would require special software, computer and cabling. All available at the local cell phone retailer/service center near you (they have to have the ability to program the phones to sell them)! Once you get the phone number, put the cell phone on a jet to Chicago and see if the AQAP phone will receive a call.

By this date Brennan should not be saying, “it is my understanding” and “analysis is being done” the validation should have been completed. The phones were most likely purchase in Yemen, I am sure someone in Yemen can read the information from the Flash Memory (Duh!).

If the design validates, then you got a real problem that needs a solution.

Gives new meaning to the advertising slogan, “Can you hear me now?”.

Always thought it was interesting that for all the cell phone triggered IED’s that killed US troops, the US never shut off the cell system in Iraq. If anything, the US taxpayer paid to build a new cell system for Iraq. The EW solution was jamming. Guess someone did not what to do the wrong COIN thing and upset the natives by taking away their cell phones.

Glossary:
Cell Phone PCB: This is the printed circuit board that the individual semiconductor and supporting components are attached to. It is what is inside the plastic shell of a cell phone.

SIM CHIP: This is a FLASH MEMORY semiconductor integrated circuit or “chip” that is mounted on the Cell Phone PCB. The SIM chip was not visible in any of the pictures released in the press articles. SIM means “Subscriber Identity Module”

I say, buy local, buy the American Label. Let the Tangos get their stuff to market in a dog cart.

If FedEx wants the public to pick up the tab for screening then charge the countries that cause the problem.

Don't worry about the cancer, just get friendly with your TSA buddy and let them pat you down.....

Better than a Tokyo Massage and it is complements of the Federal Government. They have not gotten that frisky since the IRS took over the Mustang Ranch in Nevada. That is a true story, the IRS owned a legal brothel in Nevada. Owner owed taxes and left town and the IRS took over ownership.

Other option is we tell the Airlines we will not fly and they will have their lobbiest change the policy. Why wasn't the cell system just shut down in Iraq to avoid the IED problem? Answer: Commerce and to keep people happy. How did mankind survive for a 1000 years without Full Body Scans and cell phones?

New twist: Wall Street

New twist:

Wall Street Journal.

A person familiar with the probe said investigators are tracing parts and serial numbers of components of the devices found in England and Dubai, and are sharing that information to help identify the bomb maker.

In the Dubai device, the bomb maker modified a standard Hewlett-Packard printer, hiding an improvised explosive device in the toner cartridge. The device appeared to be wired with the motherboard of a cellphone. But the phone components didn't include a SIM card, suggesting it might have been built to be triggered by the phone's timer and not by an outside phone signal, according to the person familiar with the probe

My first impression was no, giving it some thought, there are alarm clocks in cell phones. It is possible. That would make the design less tracable without the SIM card and easier to implement. So far, I have not seen a SIM card in any photographs published, does not mean it is not there. Could be out-of-view on the reverse side of the cell phone PCB (aka motherboard of a cellphone, take you pick of terms).

Need to validate the device's design.

Let the American public to know what to expect.

Funny video. So cynical and
