Sunrise Service Doubleheader: Easter and ANZAC Day

Happy Easter, everyone. I want to share a quick Easter message as well as a reminder that tomorrow is ANZAC Day. First, ANZAC Day:

Since I moved back to Washington, DC in January 2009, it has been a privilege to attend the sunrise service held on ANZAC Day each year. I should not have to remind U.S. readers that Australia and New Zealand have been America's most loyal allies, fighting alongside the United States in every major conflict since the First World War, including Vietnam. There is perhaps no better way to honor the ANZUS Pact and our Aussie and Kiwi friends than by attending the wonderful sunrise service held each year. So if you are in Washington and did not manage to make it to mass this morning, I'll see you tomorrow by the Korean Veterans War Memorial at 5:30. (21 Australian soldiers died in the Iraq War, in case you are wondering, while 23 Australians and two New Zealanders have been killed in Afghanistan.)

On ABC's This Week this morning, meanwhile, Christiane Amanpour had a special Easter edition in which she interviewed folks like Franklin Graham, who <sigh> seemed to question both the president's faith and place of birth while inevitably calling for more civility in public discourse, and Al Sharpton, who was ... well, Al Sharpton. Wedged in between those two gentlemen, though, was an interview with one of my favorite pastors, Tim Keller of New York's Redeemer Presbyterian Church. There is some great stuff in here, and, from 4:37 on, some stuff that will make those of use who blog and tweet take a harder look at our words and how we use them to either enrich or degrade the public discourse.

If pastors are not to voice

If pastors are not to voice skepticism of respected political leaders, then shouldn't civility-minded bloggers refrain from making < smug > criticisms of respected religious leaders?

Is this hard look at enriching discourse a resolution to which you may be held accountable, or is it a gimmick? Will it result in self-denying blogging that perhaps refrains from getting all your barbs in, or is it merely a rhetorical exercise that bestows a measure of self-approbation proportional to the hardness of the look?

Like the preacher too. Sad

Like the preacher too. Sad day today. Jesus had to suffer the passion. And God left us [physical body that is.]

Hehe. Considering where the

Hehe. Considering where the President attended church for over a decade, questioning the President's faith would seem to be the charitable interpretation.

The President and the hipster

The President and the hipster snark crowd aren't in a moral position to call for civility - the new race card, since the race card's played out. That's fine democracy and politics aren't really supposed to be all the genteel.

Seriously after all that was said from 03 on about Bush, Cheney, the Military being Saddam's replacement, and Sarah Palin and her kids - for that matter said about Hilary during the primaries - and President Travis You Talkin To Me Biddle don't mention civility.

Happy Anzac Day.

Happy Anzac Day.

G'day Ex, I really

G'day Ex, I really appreciated your post about ANZAC Day, a very important day of remembrance for all us Aussies and Kiwis.

Just to clarify though, Australia didn't have 21 soldiers killed in Iraq, we in fact had 0 KIA.

Cheers,

This Easter season is full of

This Easter season is full of sharp irony.

Good Friday was the 7th anniversary of Pat Tillman’s death. On Easter Sunday morning, the smiling faces of Michelle & Jill Biden appeared on the cover of "Parade Magazine" in a puff piece interview to discuss the ‘Joining Forces” program (without, of course, any mention of Gen. McChrystal's controversial appointment).

This Easter, a somewhat sacrilegious Eucharistic liturgy came to mind:

Pat Tillman“has died.” General McChrystal “is risen” (from his Rolling Stone “crucifixion” with his honor officially “resurrected”). However, Pat Tillman will not “come again” (As his brother Richard said at his 2004 memorial service, “He’s fucking dead”). Alleluia. Allelluia.

Lol jokes. Cheers for the post mate!

Runners always need new gear,

Runners always need new gear, and each time we go asics gel into gucci outlet a store, there are new versions of our old favorites. How do apparel companies come up with new products and styles gucci shoes each season? For insights I spoke with Patty Kelly, product manager at the ASICS apparel division. Not only has she been in the business for 20 years, but she has also raced all over the world as a member of the Canadian national triathlon team. Patty is currently working on apparel for fall 2011. Eventually she will asics shoes sale give a designer "product detail," which explains all the specific attributes of a given product she aims to sell. For example, she may request a seven-inch pair of shorts with two pockets and lightweight fabric. The designer will gucci shoulder bags create two or three models, gucci t shirts and she'll pick the one she anticipates the customer will like best. But before that can happen, she must do research, which includes figuring out how to differentiate this season from last and how to stay ahead of emerging trends.

Do you know your laptop

Do you know your laptop battery? When given this question to any user of the laptops batteries, they will get confused. This happens to me once when someone asks me about my dell battery. As you can see, before replacing the Hp Compaq battery Acer battery Apple battery IBM battery Asus battery Lenovo battery Samsung battery Sony battery and Toshiba battery,it is very important to know a little about the field again in the first place. There are several types of Canada laptop batteries that I will share in this post. The types of replacement laptop batteries: 1. Alkaline – This is a common batteries for laptop around, but only a few use this kind and the ruling on alkaline Dell Inspiron 6400 Battery,Dell 1520 battery or Dell 1525 battery will not be rechargeable. You have to shoot once to deflate. 2. Lead Acid – One of the most common use. It is durable, resistant and rechargeable, but unfortunately the Dell Latitude D800 Battery is heavy and full of lead: P. 3. Lithium-Ion – The type of HP Pavilion DV4 Battery or HP HSTNN-DB72 battery that you want to have for your laptop. The quick-charge effect is good for users moving (no need to wait a while for the battery is fully charged.) It is also environmentally friendly as well. 4. Nickel Cadmium – Ni-Cd is one of the oldest types and improved performance of rechargeable acer aspire 5520 series battery, but has a serious problem. After prolonged use (several years),acer aspire 5520G battery will be affected by the dreaded memory effect. This means that the use of battery life deteriorates over time. 5. Nickel Metal Hydride – Ni-MH is considered the successor to the Ni-Cd batteries such as acer aspire 5100 battery and acer aspire one battery, but unfortunately, the dreaded memory effect is as bad as well. However, comparison of the Ni-Cd and NiMH batteries, it lasts longer compared to its predecessor. The chances of using lithium-ion apple A1280 battery is 99% (that is if you are using the new breed of laptops). Just check the abbreviation says Lion or Li-Ion batteries in apple A1281 battery label. There are still some laptops that use Ni-MH batteries these days and you may want to check with the manufacturer if you can make an update of Ni-MH Li-Ion. The unauthorized use of Dell latitude D600 battery could lead to dire consequence. so do be very careful about this. If you have a larger budget you might want to check the SMART acer BATBL50L6 battery. It has a power management circuit and also tells the user which is the current condition of the BATBL50L6 replacement battery.

To find the grave of my

To find the grave of my grandfather at Hill 60 at Gallipoli was the object of a weekend visit from Istanbul. We had booked through a tour operator there but a few days from departure from Sydney,I contacted them top confirm they would take us to Hill 60 and they said they do not go to that part of the peninsular on their tours.I cancelled right away and, luckily,in that weekend's newspaper's travel section was a letter from a person who had booked with directly in Istanbul so I emailed them and was told www.privatetoursinistanbul.com they could take us to Hill 60 at no extra cost.A coffee break half way after 2 1/2 hours allowed us to stretch our legs. On the final part of the 5 hour journey,a tape was played outlining the history of the Dardenelles-Gallipoli campaign in 1915. Upon arrival at the Maydos waterside restaurant we were given lunch on the terrace wirth a wonderful view across the Dardenelles then we were off to the Brighton Beach site (one beach south of Anzac Cove and we were shown large maps of the area nd our guide explained the topography and battles shown on the map and the sites we would be visiting that afternoon. After the rather complete and highly interesting afternoon tour which included a visit to the local museum, we were taken back to restaurant and boarded a cruiser for the short crossing of the Dardenelles to Cannakale.. This in itself was a bonus as one could view the Gallipoli peninsular and grasp the view which eluded so many in rthe 1915 campaign when only a few Australian soldiers reached the peaks and saw the Dardenelles which we were now crossing, only to be beaten back by the Turks under the leadership of Attaturk later reforming President of Turkey.Included in the tour was a Sunday morning tour of Troy- that most elusive and explored city which Homer wrote about some 1200 years BC with Helen, the beauty being kidnapped by Paris and the resulting Trojan War which saw Troy VI destroyed only to be rebuilt at least 5 more times! There is a wooden horse there now but the original is said to have been a seige engine. driver and a guide to go north to Hill 60 to find my grandfather's grave. Through some wheat fields and onto a low knoll and here we were- the first persons to ever visit his grave, front row extreme right hand end.Only 44 graves, some 930 all buried in common grave, the action was made up of left-overs from various regiments,Aussies,New Zealanders ,British in this, the last main battle of the campaign. They were all wiped out in 2 days. An Australian flag, some gum leaves and a red poppy we left on the grave stone- it is a lonely place, sad and gut wrenching when one sees the absolute wastage in human lives-Back to Istanbul on the coach with memories and a feeling that we had, at least fulfilled one of life's ambitions!
