Red Dawn Remake

Most people are already snarking the hell out of this on Twitter, but want to foreground the irony. What does it mean if one of the 80s' most rabidly nationalistic action flicks had to censor itself (the Chinese were the original villains) in fear of not getting that overseas box office? What would Patrick Swayze have done? I'm not sure. Mostly I'm just nostalgic for the days that teenagers with bad hair could stand up to the evil Cuban/Nicaraguan invaders. Wolverines!

The only plausible North Korean invasion strategic aims would be to capture Disneyland, a particular favorite of the Kim clan. Thankfully, we have a blueprint of how to retake the Magic Kingdom, courtesy of the USMC.

Yes, you are by far one of the most inept individuals to post on here Aelpus.

You dare defile Red Dawn, speak of Korea invading the US and taking over the Magic Kingdom?

Kim Jong IL did say he would return, but do yourself a favor and stop the madness. You have little to no talent for writing. Stop now. Thank you.

Visitor that is quite the hard-on you got going for the new moderator. In reality this blog started loosing steam about the time the rest of the crew got further into their careers and realized that they no longer wanted the issue of Afghan COIN or the exposure on their resumes. When you are not on the winning team it is time to go find a new cause. Always been the way. Vietnam ended a lot of careers.

Aelkus is a little more academic than Exum. Therefore the blogs will be drier and more abstract. Maybe Exum picked the moderator to keep the blog from going towards the political and street talk.

Saw the Twitter feed discussion about Exum running around Look Out Mountain playing out Red Dawn with his childhood buddy. Not sure if that is true or not. Maybe that is why he joined the army and became a Ranger.

Having lived through the 80's and never hearing about Red Dawn not sure what to say. Saw the movie once few years back and did not think much about it. Doing any sort of redux seems like a waste of video. Then that is Hollywood, what sells doesn't always make any sense.

Guess I knew too many people that had to deal with the real thing. Playing "duck and cover", maybe tank wars in Germany, and sink your battle ship in the Caribbean to really get excited about Hollywood's version.

How about a discussion about the morning after in Syria???? Clinton just dropped a $5.5M dollar bill on what has been spent already for the opposition in Syria (not to mention all the other stops...Intelligence Center in Niger??). The trip through N. Africa was for a reason and that reason is more money spent.

What is America getting in return? ReDux of Red Dawn to see at the movie house? I want my money back.

The true Apocalypse is the level of Federal spending in the absence of CBO scoring of its effectiveness.

you're certainly living the on-message dream

Dream?

There are a few dreams I know, one is to borrow money and think it doesn't have to be paid back. Another is a derivative washing risk from a transaction thinking the risk is extinguished. Some folks dream about American jobs coming home.

Some people think giving foreign aid to countries makes the receiver "like" the presence of the giver better or makes for a lasting relationship (at least long enough to get a political career's ticket punched).

This is what reality looks like.

Waiting in line at a market with a person in front of you with two shopping carts full of processed food. Your neighbor's bill rings up to $400 US, after welfare magic the final tab is $76. The purchaser comments to the cash register operator, "I hope this gets me through the next week". All this happens knowing that people have not worked in a few years and never took the dole, they only paid their debt.

This is hope.
