Photo of the Week: Because No One Should Read Too Much on Fridays

A few photos of beautiful wind turbines from my trip this week to Aomori prefecture in Japan – to boot, the energy generated can be stored in sodium-sulfur batteries and sold when electricity prices are high. All part of Japan’s work to meet its energy and climate change goals. Have a good weekend everyone!

Why do you consider wind

Why do you consider wind turbines beautiful? I think they're ugly and a blight upon the landscape. Also, how does this relate to national security? I don't see the connection.

I think they're lovely - a matter of taste, sure. If you're not convinced that energy (particularly from lower-carbon and domestic sources) is a national security concern, I'd refer you to our longer reports on natural security (http://www.cnas.org/node/2712) and energy/climate change and national security (http://www.cnas.org/node/119). You might also check out the DOD Energy Blog, which provides extensive info on how DOD and the services see energy as a security concern and are addressing it as such.
