On Tuesday, July 17, the Center for a New American Security, the New America Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute hosted an in-depth discussion on the opportunities and challenges posed to the United States by events in the Greater Middle East. Panelists discussed electoral transitions following the Arab Spring, the ongoing civil war in Syria, the changing role of Turkey and Iran's regional and international profile. Ambassador Dennis Ross provided introductory remarks.
This event continued a unique collaboration among these institutions in the presidential campaign season, "Election 2012: The National Security Agenda." Past conversations covered the U.S. role in the world, policy in East Asia and the national security budget.
