The American Enterprise Institute, the Center for a New American Security and the New America Foundation are pleased to introduce Election 2012: Informing the National Security Agenda to this presidential campaign season. On March 15, the three organizations launched a series of four campaign-season events aimed at illuminating the critical U.S. foreign and defense policy issues central to the 2012 presidential election. The next event, "The U.S. and the Greater Middle East," will take place on July 17 and will feature remarks by Dennis Ross.
On May 10, the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) hosted an event featuring the Senate and House Caucuses on Global Internet Freedom, which provide bipartisan leadership and serve as a resource in the Washington policy community on this important issue.
On April 26, 2012, the Center for a New American Security hosted the book launch for Those Who Have Borne the Battle: A History of America's Wars and Those Who Fought Them by James Wright, President Emeritus of Dartmouth College, American historian and former Marine. Wright shed light on America's complicated relationship with its armed forces and how the treatment of its soldiers and veterans has evolved through history. Greg Jaffe, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Pentagon Reporter for The Washington Post, interviewed Dr. Wright.
On April 23, CNAS co-hosted an event in partnership with the Asian Development Bank and the Asia Society on what lies ahead for Asia and the Pacific and how the economic success of the region addresses national security concerns of the United States. On April 4, CNAS hosted Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defense of the Republic of Singapore, for a speech on "Promoting Peace and Stability in the Asia-Pacific through Stable Military-to-Military Relationships". The event featured introductory remarks by the Honorable Jon Huntsman, former United States Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore.
On March 27, 2012, the Center for a New American Security hosted the book launch for The Arab Uprising: The Unfinished Revolutions of the New Middle East by Dr. Marc Lynch, Non-Resident Senior Fellow at CNAS and Director of the Institute for Middle East Studies at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
At a launch event co-hosted by the Korea Economic Institute on March 8, from 12:00-1:30 p.m., the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) released Vital Venture: Economic Engagement of North Korea and the Kaesong Industrial Complex, a new report authored by Dr. Patrick M. On February 21, CNAS Senior Fellow Colin Kahl participated in a panel discussion hosted by the National Iranian American Council on the status of the Iranian nuclear program. Dr. Kahl indicated that there are a number of differences between the current situation in Iran and the lead-up to the war in Iraq, and addressed the possibility of an Israeli airstrike on Iranian facilities.
