June 11, 2012 — Dr. Nagl will discuss the future end of large scale military operations in Afghanistan. In his op-ed “The Age of Unsatisfying Wars”, Mr. Nagl makes the case that the end of Afghanistan could end in defeat, like what was seen in Vietnam, or a “messy and unsatisfying” victory like Iraq. He argues that an unsatisfying end could provide a promise for greater stability in the country.
