Ellen McHugh

Director of Operations

Ellen McHugh is Director of Operations at the Center for a New American Security, where she is responsible for leading, coordinating and overseeing the administrative function of the Center.  Her operational experience and knowledge of security issues stem in part from her previous position as Associate Director of the Center for Peace and Security Studies (CPASS) and Security Studies Program in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.  Prior to joining CPASS, Ms. McHugh was an administrator in the Brookings Institution’s Foreign Policy Studies Program.  In that capacity she was instrumental in establishing the operation foundation for the then new Saban Center for Middle East Policy. 

Ms. McHugh currently serves as an Emergency Medical Technician-B with the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department in Virginia.  A former Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon, Ms. McHugh earned her M.A. in National Security Studies from Georgetown University and her B.A. in History from the College of the Holy Cross.
