The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) held a private luncheon with ADM Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations to discuss his vision for executing the new maritime strategy. The result of over a year’s work, this new enduring strategy will apply maritime power to the crucial responsibility of protecting U.S. vital interests in an increasingly interconnected and uncertain world. Admiral Roughead began the discussion with introductory remarks and then opened the floor to questions and answers from security experts. The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is honored to host ADM Roughead as a speaker in our National Security Leaders Forum (NSLF) series. The NSLF series is a platform for senior civilian and military leaders to address the Washington policy community and press on the most important national security issues of the day.

Admiral Gary Roughead
Chief of Naval OperationsAdm. Roughead became the 29th Chief of Naval Operations in September 2007. He is a 1973 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Among his six operational commands, Adm. Roughead was the first officer to command both classes of Aegis ships, having commanded USS Barry and USS Port Royal.
