We cordially invite you to join us for the launch of an important new national security strategy document titled "Strategic Leaderhip: Framework for a 21st Century National Security Strategy."
The report's ten authors are: Anne-Marie Slaughter, Bruce Jentleson, Ivo Daalder, James Steinberg, Lael Brainard, James O’Brien, Gayle Smith, Kurt Campbell, and Michael McFaul.
The authors, who came together for a series of discussions on national security known as the Phoenix Initiative, will jointly present their framework for the next administration's national security strategy at this CNAS-sponsored discussion and reception.

Dr. Lael Brainard
Brookings InstitutionLael Brainard is vice president and director of Global Economy and Development. Formerly White House Deputy National Economic Adviser and Associate Professor at MIT, she focuses on competitiveness, trade, international economics, U.S. foreign assistance and global poverty. She is also the Director of the All Brookings Initiative on Competitiveness.

Jay Carney

Ivo Daalder
Brookings InstitutionIvo H. Daalder is a Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the The Brookings Institution and a former director for European Affairs on the National Security Council. He is a frequent commentator on current affairs and his writings have appeared in numerous journals and the opinion pages of leading U.S. and European newspapers. Prior to joining Brookings, Daalder was associate professor at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Affairs, where he was also director of research at the Center for International and Security Studies.

Dr. Bruce Jentleson
Bruce Jentleson is Professor of public policy and political science at Duke University, where he served from 2000-2005 as Director of the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy. He is a leading expert on a wide range of issues of American foreign policy, with a distinguished professorial record and extensive policy experience. In 2006-07 he was a visiting senior research fellow at Oxford University and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (London), and a Fulbright senior research scholar in Spain. His publications include numerous articles and books.

Anne-Marie Slaughter
Bert G. Kerstetter '66 University Professor of Politics and International Affairs, Princeton UniversityAnne-Marie Slaughter is the Bert G. Kerstetter '66 University Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University. From 2009–2011 she served as Director of Policy Planning for the United States Department of State, the first woman to hold that position. Upon leaving the State Department she received the Secretary's Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor conferred by the State Department, for her work leading the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review. She also received a Meritorious Honor Award from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
