Yukinori Nishimae

Japanese Ministry of Defense Visiting Fellow

Yukinori Nishimae is a Visiting Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), dispatched from the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MOD). He is concurrently holding a position in the Defense Policy Bureau of the MOD, assigned as a Ballistic Missile Defense Liaison to the United States.

Prior to joining CNAS, Mr. Nishimae was a Deputy Director in the Japan-U.S. Defense Cooperation Division of the MOD, where he was responsible for planning and negotiating the implementation framework for the relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps in Okinawa to Guam (from September 2006 to May 2009). He has also been responsible for international trade negotiations with the ASEAN as an Assistant Director in the Economic Partnership Division of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan (from April 2004 to August 2006).

Mr. Nishimae studied policy management at the Keio University before joining the Japan Defense Agency (elevated to the MOD in 2007), and earned an M.A. in security studies from the Graduate School of Security Studies at the National Defense Academy, Japan in 2004.
