The Center for a New American Security (CNAS), the Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI), and the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center at the University of Maryland, College Park hosted Lost in Translation: Navigating the Gap between Climate Science and Policy. This community event, an effort led by Sharon Burke, Vice President for Natural Security and Dr. Jay Gulledge from CNAS, and Dr. Anthony Janetos, Dr. Antonio Busalacchi, and Dr. Elizabeth Malone of the University of Maryland, brought together approximately 50 leaders from the science community and policy makers who use climate science in their work.
While scientists are making great strides in climate change data collection and analysis, this improved science doesn’t always inform national policy or the public debate, and data and advanced modeling results are not always conveyed in formats that are useful to decision makers. The goal of the event was to better understand the nature of this problem and the needs and capabilities of both communities, and to discuss solutions for improving future collaboration on climate change. This event is invitation only. Please contact Will Rogers at wrogers@cnas.org with any questions.
