October 5, 2010 — They come from a variety of backgrounds: from the centers of power in Washington to the crucible of the battlefield, from Capitol Hill to the U.S. military.

And now they have been selected by the Center for a New American Security as the next generation of leaders on national security.

The independent think tank named 16 “emerging leaders” to the CNAS Next Generation National Security Leaders class of 2011.

This is the second year of the program, which offers discussion on some of the timeliest issues of security facing the United States and the world.

Led by CNAS President John Nagl and Steve Biegun, Ford Motor Company’s vice president of international governmental affairs as CNAS board member, this year’s topics will focus on Afghanistan, natural resources and national security, the U.S. relationship with India and other issues.

“By bringing together some of the best and brightest young leaders from across the national security field, this program helps foster bipartisanship and public-private collaboration at the grassroots level, both of which are required to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow,” said Nathaniel Fick, CEO of CNAS.
