
In this joint statement from the Center for a New American Security and the Japan-based Tokyo Foundation, Patrick Cronin, CNAS Senior Advisor and Senior Director of the Asia-Pacific Security Program, and Yoichi Funabashi, Editor in Chief of Asahi Shimbun, lay out a vision for the future of the U.S.-Japan alliance. This joint statement is endorsed by and marks the culmination of a U.S.-Japan study group made of up former policymakers and distinguished scholars from the United States and Japan. Together, they argue that both countries should deepen cooperation on traditional and emerging security issues while strengthening the foundation of their alliance.
