Gregory McGowan was a Joseph S. Nye, Jr. National Security Research Intern at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) where he worked as Tom Ricks's researcher.
Prior to joining CNAS, McGowan lived in Ronda, Spain, where he served as a U.S. Language and Culture Ambassador through the Spanish Ministry of Education. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and European studies. McGowan began learning Arabic in 2008 while studying abroad in Beirut.
Previously, McGowan worked with United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in multiple capacities. He has interned with OFAC’s Congressional and Compliance departments, and assisted in a preliminary review assessing OFAC targeted sanctions programs and nuclear counter proliferation.
