Kate Brannen is the congressional correspondent for Defense News, covering the political dynamics of defense policy and spending. In this role, she provides regular coverage of the budget debate on Capitol Hill and its implications for national security. Her reporting also appears in the Military Times family of newspapers, including Army Times.
Previously, she spent three years covering the U.S. Army - first as a reporter for InsideDefense.com, then as the land warfare correspondent for Defense News. She has reported from military bases across the country and defense industry trade shows overseas, interviewing Pentagon and State Department senior leadership.
Kate graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, with a bachelor's degree in history. She has received graduate degrees from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), where she was senior editor of the Journal of International Affairs.
