Colonel Christopher G. Cavoli
Colonel Christopher G. Cavoli is a Military Professor of Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies. He was commissioned in the Infantry as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1987 and has served in a wide variety of operational billets in airborne and light infantry units throughout Europe, Asia and the United States, in both training and combat. Colonel Cavoli’s staff experience includes a posting as the Country Director for Russia on the Joint Staff/J5, service as the Deputy Executive Assistant for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and appointment as the Chairman of the JCS’s Military Fellow at the National Defense University. Colonel Cavoli is also a qualified Foreign Area Officer and speaks Italian, Russian and French.
Most recently, Colonel Cavoli commanded the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry of the 10th Mountain Division. With this unit, he deployed from March 2006 to June 2007 to Afghanistan, where the battalion’s area of responsibility included Nangarhar, Nuristan, Laghman and Kunar Provinces. Since July 2007, Colonel Cavoli has been a military professor of security studies at the George C. Marshall Center in Garmisch, Germany.
Colonel Cavoli holds degrees from Princeton and Yale Universities. He is a veteran of Operations Provide Comfort, Joint Forge, and Enduring Freedom. His awards include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Ranger Tab, and Master Parachutist Wings.
