William J. Perry Chair

The William J. Perry Chair honors Dr. Perry’s extraordinary record as a public servant, strategist, business leader, and scholar, as well as his role as the founding Chairman of the CNAS Board of Directors.

Dr. Perry’s exceptional career spans the public sector, the private sector and academia. While serving in the government, he promoted the development of stealth aircraft and other advanced technologies that now give the U.S. military unparalleled capabilities. He also sought to prevent future threats to the United States, most notably through denuclearization initiatives after the collapse of the Soviet Union. He has extensive business experience in the technology sector, and currently serves as a director of several technology companies. Additionally, Dr. Perry taught engineering for many years at Stanford University, where he co-directed the Center for International Security and Cooperation.

The William J. Perry Chair will be held by the Chief Executive Officer of CNAS. The establishment of this Chair will help to ensure the vitality of CNAS’s research, analysis, and operations, and will allow CNAS to continue its contributions to inform public debate on critical national security issues and its mentorship of the next generation of national security leaders.
