Center for a New American Security

Joel Smith is a Research Assistant at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).  His primary research focus is on defense and veteran policy.

Prior to joining CNAS, Mr. Smith was an intern with the Budgeting for Foreign Affairs and Defense program at the Stimson Center, where he studied national security budgeting and grand strategy.  He was a contributor to Stimson’s policy blog, The Will and the Wallet.  He also interned with Refugees International.

Mr. Smith holds a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Economics from North Carolina State University.
