August 25, 2009 - Foreign Policy's Laura Rozen covers the CNAS Next Generation Leaders Program on FP.com.  Rozen writes, "The Center for New American Security, the plugged-in Washington national security think tank which has had a slate of associates join the Obama administration, has announced those selected to be in its first class of Next Generation National Security Leaders."

May 30, 2009 - Foreign Affairs reviews journalist David Sanger's recent book on the world President Obama faces, written while he was a Writer in Residence at the Center for a New American Security.

February 8, 2009 - The New York Times reviews CNAS Writer-in-Residence David Sanger's new book The Inheritance. "In Sanger’s telling, a comparable disconnect between claims and reality has characterized almost every diplomatic or military venture the Bush administration has undertaken," Lawrence Kaplan writes.

February 8 & 9, 2009 - The Washington Post features a two-part excerpt from CNAS Senior Fellow Tom Ricks' new book The Gamble. In his book, Ricks uses hundreds of hours of interviews with top military commanders and on-the-ground reportage to document the creation and implementation of the new military strategy in Iraq labeled the "surge."  

January 31, 2009 - David Cloud, a veteran national security reporter and former CNAS Writer-in-Residence, writes about the Obama administration's efforts to craft a new strategy toward Iran. He highlights a recent CNAS report that recommends steps for improving relations with Iran and dealing with its nuclear program.

January 13, 2009 - Writing about David E. Sanger's new book, "The Inheritance," Princeton professor Gary A. Bass writes in the New York Times, "Unlike other accounts of Mr. Bush’s foreign policy, “The Inheritance” is not about Iraq but about the crushing opportunity costs paid elsewhere for that quagmire. With America bogged down in Iraq, a rising China has expanded its global influence. Mr. Sanger reports of the peril from unsecured nuclear arsenals: “As the situation in Iraq worsened, the post-9/11 efforts to create a multilayered defense against a domestic W.M.D. attack waned.”

December 19, 2008--"The protests of today are not about America" opines Senior Fellow Robert Kaplan in the latest edition of Atlantic Monthly. "The problem is that despite the probability of new elections, Greece seems destined to suffer through a period of weak governments, which will lack the political capital to do what’s necessary in the way of change."

December 16, 2008-- CNAS Senior Fellow Derek Chollet’s newest book, America Between the Wars, was chosen among Slate’s best books of 2008. Slate columnist David Greenberg reviews: “With expertise, literary facility, and a degree of narrative talent not normally found in policy wonks, they explicate all the key issues that emerged after the Cold War and with globalization: terrorism, rogue states, genocide, financial interdependence, and so on. It's a significant historical contribution.”

December 1, 2008-- CNAS Senior Fellow Robert D. Kaplan offers insight into the Hindu-Muslim tensions festering within India..."Tolerable inter-communal relations are the sine qua non of Indian stability and ascendancy- India has more to lose from extremist Islam than arguably any other country in the world."
