Research Areas

Katherine Kidder is a Fellow in the Military, Veterans, and Society Program and the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). She leads the CNAS Rebuilding the Bipartisan Defense Project, convening members of Congress around national security and defense issues.

Her expertise includes military personnel policy, defense budgeting, defense legislation, foreign aid, data analytics, and demography. Her commentary and analysis have been featured on BBC, the NBC Nightly News, Reuters, The Christian Science Monitor, Defense News, and Federal News Radio.

She served on the defense policy team for the Marco Rubio 2016 presidential campaign.

Ms. Kidder is a doctoral candidate in Security Studies at Kansas State University, where she concentrates on congressional-executive relations and the formation of U.S. foreign policy. She earned her M.A. in Security Studies from Kansas State University, where she concentrated on U.S. Foreign policy and quantitative methodology. Her master’s thesis focused on the institutional professionalization of the U.S. Army. Ms. Kidder also holds a B.S. In History with a concentration in military history from Kansas State University.
