Senior Military Fellow

Lieutenant Colonel James “Genghis” Price entered Air Force service as a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1997.  He was chosen to join the selectively manned, and America’s only, B-2 wing and is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Weapons School.  Lieutenant Colonel Price was an Olmsted Scholar, in a two-year cultural immersion program including graduate study in a foreign language at a foreign university, in Timisoara, Romania.  Lieutenant Colonel Price was a Policy Advisor at the U.S. Mission to NATO, where he was responsible for representing the United States on operational policy matters and advising the US Ambassador to NATO.  Next, he commanded the 6th Reconnaissance Squadron, the Air Force’s only Formal Training Unit for MQ-1B Predator Initial Qualification Training.

Prior to the start of his National Defense Fellowship at the Center for a New American Security, Washington, D.C., Lieutenant Colonel Price was assigned as the Assistant Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff, United States Air Force.  In this position he directly supported the senior uniformed Air Force officer responsible for the organization, training and equipping of 664,000 active-duty, guard, reserve and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas.

Lieutenant Colonel Price holds a Bachelor of Science in Military History with a Spanish Minor from the U.S. Air Force Academy, a Master of Arts in Military History and Airpower from American Military University, and a Master of Arts in European Studies and International Relations from the University of the West in Timisoara, Romania.  He is fluent in Romanian and Spanish, and proficient in Italian and Portuguese.  

Lieutenant Colonel Price is a command pilot with more than 2,800 flight hours in the B-2, B-52, MQ-1, T-37 and T-38.  He has flown over 156 combat hours and 228 combat support hours during Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, ANACONDA and COPPER DUNE.  He is married to the former Michelle Bowie of Waldorf, MD, and they have one child, Erik.
