Escalating steps by Tehran and Washington are raising the pressure on European leaders to pick sides in a conflict they have been seeking to defuse for months.

On Sunday, Iran said it would abandon limits placed on its nuclear-enrichment under a 2015 nuclear deal struck with European powers and the U.S., days after a U.S. drone strike that killed a top Iranian military commander sent tensions soaring.
