AUKUS weighs expanding security pact with Japan to deter China
Australia and the United States have deepened their commitment to countering China's growing aggression in the Indo Pacific by bringing Japan into the fold. The allies announced a new air defence strategy this week aimed at bolstering defence and security cooperation throughout the region. It came just hours after the AUKUS alliance of Australia, the US and the UK confirmed it was considering including Japan in some of its military projects. Richard Fontaine weighs in.
