Richard Fontaine on Trump 2.0's Foreign Policy and Indo-Pacific Shift
In this episode of DC Insiders, Richard Fontaine, CEO of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), joins host Wenchi Yu to discuss foreign policy under the second Trump administration. Fontaine analyzes the areas where the second Trump term might continue or depart from traditional conservative internationalism. He disputes the idea of a "reverse Nixon strategy," arguing that the U.S. is unlikely to forge close ties with Russia or create a rift between Russia and China. Looking ahead, Fontaine anticipates a greater allocation of resources toward the Indo-Pacific region. He also advises Taiwan to bolster its defense capabilities and alliances as a means of deterring China.
