‘U.S. Military Leverage a Risky Tactic’: Bombs, Military Escalation Will Not Bring Iran ‘To the Table’

According to Townsend, U.S.–Iran negotiations are shaped by tactical maneuvering: a pre-negotiation ritual in which both sides position themselves strategically through public posturing and calculated obstruction. Ultimately, meaningful progress will depend on mediation, incremental trust-building, and the extension of fragile ceasefires.
