Alexandra Schmitt is a Foreign Policy Fellow in the office of Congressman Andy Levin (D-MI). She previously worked as a Senior Policy Analyst at the Center for American Progress, where she led the National Security and International Policy team’s work on human rights, democracy, and development issues and coordinated an international network of progressive analysts, politicians, and pollsters. She was also a 2020-2021 fellow with the National Endowment for Democracy’s Penn Kemble Forum on Democracy. Prior to CAP, Alex served as a research assistant at Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and the Center for Public Leadership, where she developed new courses on multiparty negotiation analysis and conflict resolution. Alex has also worked in the advocacy division of Human Rights Watch, where she advocated with U.S. government officials on national security and foreign policy issues, as well as at Human Rights First and the United Nations Foundation.Alex earned a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor’s Degree in political science from Grinnell College in Iowa.
