Tom Barron is a U.S. Army Special Forces officer. In this role, he has led a Special Forces operational detachment focused on operations across the African continent. Prior to joining the Special Forces community, Tom was as an infantry officer in the 82nd Airborne Division, where he served as a rifle platoon leader and company executive officer. He has deployed in leadership and command positions to Afghanistan, Niger, and the Horn of Africa. A New York City native, Tom graduated from Harvard College with an A.B. in Social Studies, and from the University of Cambridge with an MPhil in African Studies, where he was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. His graduate research examined the role of politically powerful militaries in post-colonial Africa and is published in African Security. Tom is married to Kayla Barron, a Naval officer and NASA Astronaut Candidate.
