Virtual Report Launch: America’s Use of Coercive Economic Statecraft

Dec 17, 2020
10:00am to 11:00am ET

On December 17, 2020, CNAS hosted a public event on America’s use of coercive economic statecraft. The last decade has seen an explosive growth in U.S. use of coercive economic tools to meet a broadening range of policy goals. The last several presidential administrations have significantly increased the use of sanctions, and, over the last several years, the Trump administration has also renewed and expanded other parts of America’s coercive economic toolkit such as export controls and investment restrictions.

The event coincided with the release of the final report of the CNAS Task Force on the Future of U.S. Coercive Economic Statecraft titled America’s Use of Coercive Economic Statecraft principally authored by Task Force Coordinators Elizabeth Rosenberg and Peter Harrell.
