Political Analyst, Federal Government

Ryan Bugas is a seasoned political analyst in the federal government. For nearly fifteen years, he has tackled some of our nation's thorniest challenges in the Middle East and South Asia, supported leaders and policy deliberations across the interagency, and formulated strategy to better position his organization to respond to future threats. Previously, he helped a federal chief strategy officer develop an enterprise-wide strategy to align resources to organizational priorities. Crisis-tested, Ryan has developed a reputation for building broad, diverse coalitions across the government and for mentoring the next generation.

A Term Member on the Council on Foreign Relations, Ryan also served in a policy rotation on Afghanistan at the Department of State, as an imagery analyst at the Department of Defense, and as a briefer to the National Security Council. A native Virginian, Ryan holds an MPP from the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia (UVa), where he was a Bocock-Hitz Public Service Fellow. He received his BA with high distinction in Political and Social Thought and Foreign Affairs at UVa. His final year at UVa, Ryan was selected to live on Thomas Jefferson's Lawn, one of the highest honors for an undergraduate student.
