Afghan Horror Story
Via aldaily.com, I came across this article on the efforts of an Afghan AUB graduate to reconstruct Ariana Airlines, once a jewel of an airline in antebellum Afghanistan.
The sad case of Dr. Mohammed Atash, the former president of Ariana, Afghanistan’s largest commercial airline, should be seen as a cautionary tale for what the U.S. and Europe may face in short order: namely, a failed state built on the ruins of the Taliban and sustained by cynical domestic interests.
This story highlights the difficulty reconstruction efforts face in trying to break through the crushing weight of corruption that is endemic in post-Taliban Afghanistan. Depressing and instructive.
And this ... well, this is your Wednesday morning amusement.
