US FCC Set to Ban Approvals of New Huawei and ZTE Equipment, Document Shows

The US defence community maintains that Chinese network systems, particularly those involving radio transmission capabilities, could be used for espionage.

“This is the final step to get equipment from untrusted vendors off U.S. networks,” said Martijn Rasser of the Center for a New American Security. “There are concerns that these devices could be used to spy on Americans by collecting and exfiltrating data. Another issue is that each such device is a potential cyberattack vector.”
