Research Associate, Technology and National Security Program
Kara Frederick is the Research Associate for the Technology and National Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).
Prior to joining CNAS, Kara was the Counterterrorism Analysis Program and Regional Intelligence Team Lead for Global Security at Facebook, Inc. in Menlo Park, CA. She has over six years of experience as a counterterrorism analyst at the Department of Defense. Her tours include three deployments to Afghanistan in support of special operations forces, briefer to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict (ASD SO/LIC), and over a year at the National Security Agency (NSA). She was also an intelligence analyst for a U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command.
She received her M.A. in War Studies from King's College London and her B.A. in Foreign Affairs and History from the University of Virginia.
