Lt Col Mary Hossier is the Department of the Air Force senior military fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). Prior to her assignment as a fellow, she was director of innovation at the Chief of Staff of the Air Force Strategic Studies Group (SSG), Headquarters Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. The SSG is a think tank for the chief and vice chief of staff of the Air Force and executes studies focused on Air Force strategy and force design, ally and partner networks, combat innovation, and wargaming for unconventional entities.

Hossier received her commission as a distinguished graduate of the Baylor University Reserve Officer Training Corps program. She is a career force support officer (manpower, personnel, and services) who commanded the 48th Force Support Squadron at RAF Lakenheath, UK, where her squadron provided direct support to Operation ALLIES REFUGE (Afghanistan evacuation operations in Ramstein, Germany) and directed forward deployments to NATO’s eastern flank to counter Russian aggression in Ukraine. She has held numerous operational and staff positions, including as an executive officer to senior Air Force commanders, an action officer in the General Officer Management Office, a speechwriter and congressional liaison to the Air Force A1 (three-star general officer and director of manpower, personnel, and services), and an operations officer in the force support squadron at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey.

Hossier holds a BA, cum laude, in journalism from Baylor University; an MBA, with highest distinction, in international business from Liberty University; an MA, distinguished graduate, in defense and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College; and an MPhil from the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, the Air Force’s graduate school for strategists.
