CNAS Experts Andrea Kendall-Taylor and Peter Harrell Selected for National Security Council Staff

Washington, January 8, 2021—The Center for a New American Security congratulates Andrea Kendall-Taylor, Senior Fellow and Director of the CNAS Transatlantic Security Program, on her selection by President-elect Biden as Senior Director for Russia and Central Asia at the National Security Council. CNAS also congratulates Peter Harrell, Adjunct Senior Fellow with the CNAS Energy, Economics, and Security Program, on his selection as Senior Director for International Economics and Competitiveness at the National Security Council.

CNAS CEO Richard Fontaine said: “Andrea is a terrific choice to lead the NSC's Russia policy efforts. Her depth of knowledge and extensive experience will help the new administration understand—and respond to—the Russia challenge.” He added, “Peter is a superb choice as well. As one of the leading experts in applying the tools of economic statecraft, he will be an outstanding addition to the administration.”

Kendall-Taylor and Harrell are two in a succession of former CNAS leaders who have served in key policy-making positions.
