Leading National Security Experts Join CNAS Board of Directors and Board of Advisors

The
Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is pleased to announce that Karen Elliott House, former
senior vice president of Dow Jones & Company and publisher of all print
editions of The Wall
Street Journal, has joined the CNAS Board of Directors.

“Karen possesses extraordinary expertise and decades of foreign policy
experience garnered from her own reporting and from leading some of the
best news outlets in the business,” said CNAS Chief Executive
Officer Nathaniel Fick. “Her insight and guidance will be invaluable
to the Center and we are honored to have her join our Board.”

CNAS is also pleased to announce that Ambassador Dell L. Dailey, who
served as the State Department’s coordinator for counterterrorism under former
President George W. Bush; Lieutenant
General David A. Deptula, USAF (Ret.), former deputy chief of staff for
Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) at Air Force
Headquarters; and Christopher
M. Schroeder, chief executive officer of HealthCentral.com and former chief
executive officer and publisher of Washington Post.Newsweek
Interactive, have joined the CNAS Board of Advisors.

Karen Elliott House retired in March
2006 as senior vice president of Dow Jones & Company and publisher of all
print editions of The Wall
Street Journal.  She was also a member of the company's
executive committee. She was a senior fellow at the Belfer Center for Science
and International Affairs at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard in
2007-2008. Prior to being appointed publisher of The Wall Street Journal in July 2002, House
had been president of Dow Jones' international group since January 1995. 
She was responsible for the business and editorial staffs of all Dow Jones
overseas publications and services, international sales operations, overseas
investments and publishing partnerships. She is a former director and a
current member of the Council on Foreign Relations, member of the board of
the Trilateral Commission, and a member of the board of trustees of RAND. 




Ambassador Dell L. Dailey served as the
coordinator for counterterrorism for the Department of State from 2005-2007,
charged with coordinating and supporting the development and implementation of
U.S. government policies and programs aimed at countering terrorism overseas.
As the principal advisor to the secretary of state on international
counterterrorism matters, he was responsible for taking a leading role in
developing coordinated strategies to defeat terrorists abroad and in securing
the cooperation of international partners. Ambassador Dailey served more than
36 years on active duty in the United States Army. He reached the rank of
lieutenant general as the director of the Center for Special Operations, U.S.
Special Operations Command, at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. He is currently
the president of a family-owned consulting company, Dell Dailey and Family.

Lieutenant General David A.
Deptula, USAF (Ret.) is a thought leader on defense, strategy
and ISR.  A highly decorated military officer with over 3,000 hours (400
in combat) and multiple commands in the F-15, he transitioned from the U.S. Air
Force (USAF) in 2010 after more than 30 years of service.  He has twice
been a Joint Task Force Commander; was the principal attack planner for the
Desert Storm air campaign; director of the Combined Air Operations Center for
Operation Enduring Freedom; and the Joint Force Air Component commander for the
South Asia tsunami relief. He served on two congressional commissions
outlining America's future defense posture. As the first USAF deputy chief
of staff for ISR, he transformed the USAF ISR and remotely piloted aircraft enterprises
setting a standard emulated by services and nations around the world.  He
is now chief executive officer for MAV6, LLC, a high-technology company whose
focus is providing situational awareness.



Christopher M. Schroeder is
a leading entrepreneur and investor in interactive technologies and social
communications. He is chief executive officer and board member of
HealthCentral.com, a collection of condition and wellness-specific
interactive experiences focused on people finding and sharing real-life
experiences related to their health needs.  Schroeder is an investor and
advisor for a series of technology start-ups and funds ranging from news and
media to education, social networks and marketing. He is also engaged
in exploring more global trends toward entrepreneurship, with a special focus
on the developing world and the Middle East. A veteran of online media,
Schroeder served as CEO and publisher of Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive,
which hosts several leading news sites.
