Annie Pforzheimer is an adjunct senior fellow with the Indo-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security.
She is a retired senior U.S. diplomat, an adjunct professor of international relations at the City University of New York and Pace University, and a consultant, researcher, and public commentator on foreign policy. Before retiring in 2019 she was the acting deputy assistant secretary of state for Afghanistan and deputy chief of mission in Kabul, as well as the director for international narcotics and law enforcement at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. Pforzheimer also spent one year at the National Security Council as director for Central America engagement. She is the board chair of Women for Afghan Women and serves on the board of the Friends of the American University in Afghanistan. Pforzheimer is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and received a master of science degree in national security studies from the National Defense University.
