As the popularity of digital assets and decentralized finance grows amongst consumers, so too does the risk of illicit use for fraud, terrorist financing, and other malicious activities. To discuss ongoing efforts to develop policies and programs to fight financial crimes in the digital assets space, CNAS hosted Brian Nelson, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the Treasury, for a virtual conversation hosted by Emily Kilcrease, Senior Fellow and Director of the Energy, Economics, and Security Program. The virtual event included discussion of key findings from the Department of Treasury's recent reports on digital assets and illicit finance, as well as a preview of Treasury's priorities and ongoing work in this area.
