Kurt Johnston is an intern for the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).
Johnston recently graduated with a master of international affairs degree from the University of California San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy, where he specialized in international politics. As a graduate student, he conducted research on democratic backsliding, extremist violence, and state-building processes in the aftermath of civil conflict.
Prior to joining CNAS, Johnston interned at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress. He also worked as a teaching assistant and research assistant at UC San Diego, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in international studies.
