Major Walker Mills is an MQ-9A Reaper pilot currently serving as a Department Head with Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3 in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He previously served as an infantry officer with Second Battalion, First Marine Regiment, and as an exchange officer with the Colombian Navy and Marine Corps. Mills is a senior editor at the Center for International Maritime Security (CIMSEC) and cohost of the Sea Control podcast. He is also the co-director of the Irregular Warfare Initiative’s Maritime Project. In 2020, he was recognized as the U.S. Naval Institute’s Proceedings Author of the Year, and in 2023, he was recognized as a Distinguished Author by the Marine Corps Association Foundation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and archaeology from Brown University, a master’s degree in international relations and contemporary war from King’s College, London, and a master’s degree in homeland security and defense from the Naval Postgraduate School.
