Romy Koo is a Joseph S. Nye Jr. intern for the Defense Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), where she supports research on the U.S. defense industrial base and emerging technologies in defense and their implications for nuclear deterrence.
Prior to joining CNAS, Koo worked at The Asia Group in Washington, D.C., and Seoul, South Korea, advising U.S. and South Korean business leaders across sectors on political, security, and regulatory environments. She also worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies Office of the Korea Chair, focusing on U.S.-ROK alliance dynamics and Northeast Asia security issues, and completed internships in South Korea’s government and nongovernment sectors.
Koo earned her BA in international studies and public health from the Johns Hopkins University. At Johns Hopkins, she served as the news and features editor at The Johns Hopkins News-Letter. She is a native speaker of Korean and English.
